The World’s No.1 Superstar® Turns Supernatural Spectacle Into Los Angeles Short Film Awards Victory
Sidow Sobrino - The World's No.1 Superstar
“Under Your Spell” takes Best Pop Music Video as The World’s No.1 Superstar® continues challenging the entertainment industry's traditional celebrity hierarchy.
NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES, LONDON and TOKYO — Sidow Sobrino has claimed Best Pop Music Video at the October 2026 Los Angeles Short Film Awards for “Under Your Spell.” The award-winning singer-songwriter, actor and producer brings supernatural fantasy, electronic dance-pop and theatrical storytelling together in a production that adds another international distinction to his career.
Best known for having derailed the entertainment industry's traditional definition of superstardom, challenging a celebrity hierarchy built around chart dominance, box-office success, streaming figures and social media influence. Sobrino’s approach places artistic identity and creative independence at the center of his entertainment career.
Written, directed and performed by Sobrino, “Under Your Spell” unfolds around The Supreme Sorcerer, a commanding figure who summons ancient forces to determine who deserves to inherit his empire. His husband and creative collaborator, Richard Sidow-Sobrino, appears as Balthazar, the Royal Butler, bringing their creative partnership into the video's supernatural world.
“I don't create with validation from third parties in mind, but recognition from the industry certainly feels good,” Sobrino said. “What makes it even more rewarding is seeing the fans who support my work share in these achievements. Every new milestone takes that support to greater heights, and there is always another mountain to climb.”
Presented under Best Film Awards, the competition features judges including Netflix series producer Kotaro Sakai; BAFTA-accredited director Ornella Hawthorn Gardez; Paolo Di Maio, associated with the Oscar-nominated City of God; and Maxine De Vere, associated with Sexy Beast and formerly of the BBC.
Other October winners include Quinn Wolverton, Best Feature Film for James; Mary Apick, Best Feature Documentary for Jewel of the Desert; Mitsuo Kurihara, Best Indie Feature Film for Shimo-Mizuno Meeting Hall; and Finise Avery, Best Short Film for Desperately Seeking Commitment. Edward B. Kessel received Best Music Video for Not Today Billy, a separate category from Sobrino's Best Pop Music Video victory.
“All I know is that when we kiss and hug each other, we look at internationally recognized, award-winning individuals and remind each other there's more where these came from,” Richard Sidow-Sobrino said.
Filmed in Laguna Beach, California, and set in Miami Beach, “Under Your Spell” combines a 145 BPM electronic dance-pop soundtrack with cinematic fantasy. The production expands the visual universe of Sobrino's album Seminal, with international music distribution through S & S Digital Records and The Orchard (Sony Music).
The victory follows previous festival recognition for Dangerous Joy, Rome-Antics, Bad Boy's Wild Ride and Number One, extending Sobrino's portfolio of internationally recognized music and film productions.
The charts may determine what's popular today. Sidow Sobrino is building a creative legacy intended to outlast them.
