Built around themes of freedom, individuality and emotional survival, “Dangerous Joy” merges glossy pop production with theatrical imagery. The music video moves between stark black-and-white silhouettes symbolizing condemnation and eruptions of vivid color, crystal hearts and intimate moments shared by straight, lesbian and gay couples. Throughout the visual, Sidow Sobrino and his husband, Richard Sidow-Sobrino, appear in shifting symbolic forms — from two grooms to two brides and a groom-and-bride pairing — intentionally blurring expectations surrounding gender, identity and love.

Richard Sidow-Sobrino also reflected on the inspiration behind the release, recalling his upbringing in a conservative environment during the 1980s and the hostility directed toward those perceived as different.
“This anthem sprang forth from that hate,” he said. “Our love has propelled us into the national spotlight to become the voices we did not have growing up. We will not hide in a closet, and we will be who we are meant to be.”
