LA GUERRILLA

Austin,TX,United States
06/13/2013

"Throw any kind of descriptors at La Guerrilla – Latin rock, funk, pop, soul, hip-hop – and they'll all stick. But probably the best way to convey what the genre-bending six-piece sounds like is to put it this way: it's a band where members who individually love Gogol Bordello, Björk, Flaming Lips, At the Drive In and Chico Mann can feel at home with one another." - Chad Swiatecki, Austin American Statesman

Originated in Austin, TX, circa 2009; La Guerrilla is Peruvian songwriter, and graphic artist, Enrique Rumiche's brainchild. His previous solo project was called "La Guerrilla de Lilliput", but got shortened after many venues, and followers only remembered the first or last part of the name.
?
As the sole songwriter, composer, designer, Enrique Rumiche is responsible for the direction of this International Collective. Influenced by many 80's and 90's one hit wonders plus International POP music and artists like Manu Chao, Arcade Fire, The Clash, Banksy, Bjork, Soda Stereo, Dr. Dre, Ruben Blades, Massive Attack, Cafe Tacvba, Bowie, Michael Jackson, ATDI, Sinatra, Yann Tiersen, and many more, Rumiche started his project with a simple Roland beatbox and his acoustic guitar. Placing adds on craigslist, meeting musicians at parties and open mics, he started adding more instruments to his repertoire.
?
?Two members of La Guerrilla have been steady since it's conception, drummer and samples Paul Joseph Loney III, and trombonist, rapper, and hype man Zumbi. After every recording the collective becomes a revolving door of artists that add to the power, and passion of the music for the live shows.
?
When it comes down to the stage, La Guerrilla finds it absurd to just play rehearsed melodies with musical instruments to an audience. Instead the experience is enhanced by props, from phaser amplified motorcycle helmets, to piñata bubble heads, to toy accordions, to simple signs stating "How much of your shit is made in China?". The goal is to make proper use of a stage and to give the audience more than just music.

The band has released 2 E.P.'s with much success in the Central Texas region. Selling over 1500 copies so far without having released a full length.
Internationally, their second EP "Adios Lala Land?" has earned them their first music review in Lima, Peru on Revista Esquina (with distribution in Miami). Also, Worldwide, Mexican, and Colombian blogs like bestfestivals.net and about.com have featured La Guerrilla articles, reviews, and music. Moreover, their first EP "La guerrilla" got the attention of NPR radio, where their single "Ganas no me faltan" is featured on the NPR Latin Alternative show.? La Guerrilla is also on Mexican radio on "Orbita 106.7 FM" in Juarez, Mexico, and in Central Texas stations. ?
In addition, their video for "Erika" has been featured on ARE! magazine (Spain), VINIL magazine (Mexico), and blogs throughout Texas. Even, a zumba instructor from California choreographed a routine on La Guerrilla music, which now is being used as their official video for "Los Besos".
?
They have shared the stage with Ozomatli, George Clinton and P Funk, Filter, Plastilina Mosh's Rosso, Federico Aubuele, Kinky Friedman, Charanga Cakewalk, The Bright light Social Hour and more. Indeed the band is a FESTIVAL band, from the Crawfish Festival, to Pachanga Fest, to official ACL parties, SXSW performances, the Texas Book Festival, Warped Tour, to a FORMULA 1 World Race show, they've done it all with success!

After having recorded two E.P.'s they are now currently working on their first Full length, already collaborating with members of Black Joe Lewis, grammy award winners Grupo Fantasma, Atash, and David Boyle (Justin Timberlake, Bebel Gilberto, Robert Plant) . In the end this is a fun band with a message of empowerment through being one self.
